Frühlingsfest - The 'Mini-Oktoberfest'
|
Frühlingsfest.
One Oktoberfest a year isn't enough, although it would probably
never be possible to stage two of these mammoth keg parties in any given
twelve-month period. The compromise solution is Frühlingsfest,
literally "spring festival" which as its name
suggests arrives each April and lasts two weeks. It is held in the same
area (Theresienwiese) reserved for the Oktoberfest and benefits from sponsorship
and participation from Munich's major breweries as well. The crowds are
much more manageable and the sheer size of the operation still pales in
comparison to what will occur six months later. But, for those who get
impatient waiting for the first snow melt and who can't wait to get out
into the beer gardens and start quaffing beers in direct sunlight again,
this is the place to be.
