beer garden

Chinesischer Turm is one of Munich's largest beer gardens, and perhaps its most famous. With more than 7,000 seats around the famous erzat Chinese pagoda in the middle of Englischer Garten, this place could hardly be overlooked. And it shouldn't be. The greatest mix of clientele imaginable -- from the read-dyed spiked hair to the clean-cut yuppie-with-a-briefcase look -- it's all here. The restaurant is well-run and a bit pricey, while the beer garden has a fast-food stand that is more than reasonable and extremely quick service. This is a place where you can expect to put down a pfand (deposit) on your beer mug to insure its return (just remember to get your money back by turning in the token) and you have your choice of radlers, Russiches, and the traditional helles maß of beer. (Radlers are half beer, half lemon-lime soda; Russishes half lemon-lime and half wheat beer). Be sure to include Chinesischer Turm with visits to Osterwald Garten , Seehaus and Hirschau to make a full day of it in the Englischer Garten. Chinesischer Turm gets 4-1/2 beers in the 7th Edition.
