Hintebrühl will make you think you're high in the mountains although still in the outskirts of Munich. In a heavily wooded area marked by pine groves and mature chestnut trees, this is the other beer garden where the patently Bavarian tradition of Floß (pronounced Floh-es) can be viewed and enjoyed, from a table-side seat no less. During the summer months, wooden rafts filled with about 60 festive revelers floats by most of the day. The gradually rising crescendo of an approaching Oom-pah band announces their approach and the raised maß of beer in Prosit! from the patrons in the beer garden salutes their departure. And then it begins all over again, about 10 minutes later. Great food and Hacker-Pschorr beer make this an outstanding beer garden venue at the outskirts of the city. The short refreshing walk along the river (through a campground) makes the trip that much more enjoyable. Hinterbrühl gets 4 1/2 beers.
